Student InvolvementHealing Words Foundation values student involvement and tries to involve students in as many aspects of our foundation's activities as possible. The television show provides an excellent opportunity for a variety of students to learn outside the classroom.
Experiential Learning with the SDSU Journalism Department On Call with the Prairie Doc® works with a variety of SDSU students in the production of our show. Many of the people in the production crew are journalism students who assist with running the cameras and sound equipment. We hope that this is a win-win. We need the assistance, and the students are gaining valuable, hands-on experience. Prairie Doc® Assistantship A professional development program for SDSU undergraduates interested in medical careers This is a group of pre-professional undergraduate students who are interested in learning more about the medical field. They volunteer their time each week to answer the viewers’ calls during On Call with the Prairie Doc®. Additionally, some of the students help research show topics. Before each show, the students meet with the guest physicians and have a chance to ask questions about the various medical sub-specialties. We also try to arrange other events throughout the year to expand their knowledge of the medical field and help them grow in professionalism as they prepare for whatever their career may be. |
